Long before I thought I’d become an interior designer, I moved with an exciting job to Brussels. Equally as exciting to me, was the architecture of the city. Large flats, many built in the 1920s and 1930s, with spacious rooms, high ceilings, and period features.

I took one for myself on the famous Avenue Louise and relished designing it at pace, while onboarding into the new job and commuting between London and Brussels for my first month.

My starting point was the art and objects I had inherited, allowing their colours and shapes to spill into the furniture and soft furnishings. From there, I built a lightly eclectic space: complementary textures and materials, juxtaposing contemporary furniture and traditional elements, and arranging furniture formally underneath the cornices, ceiling roses, and contemporary light pieces. Planting on the balconies and potted plants inside brought nature to the central, urban location.

With such a beautiful, light filled space, I chose to furnish gently, respecting the original architecture, and balancing between my personality and the history of the home.
